The Art of Tantra means something different to everyone. It is a unique journey into the cultivation of your own essence and soul. It is bringing your full self into harmony and alignment using practices, techniques and sharing experiences which nurture this self knowledge. It is not something exotic to fear. I speak from experience when I say that it took me about two years before I was 'brave' enough to reach out to my local tantra group when I found them. I didn't have a clue what it was, I just knew I had to go, but no way was I speaking to anyone who talked tantra! My first tantra class was gently outside my comfort zone and whilst it was terrifying, it was also liberating, and started a long journey into self exploration on a level I had not encountered before. My awakening to this point had been fairly cerebral and academic. Tantra is touch. It brings out feelings to examine and explore within oneself. It is the depth and opens us to our shadows.
We are in the process of setting up a monthly tantra group in Edinburgh and Fife. It is open to anyone and is a gentle exploration into the world of conscious touch and living. We create a safe space to explore lightly what it is to experience different understandings of ourselves through various practices and meditations. Everyone is encouraged to work with their own boundaries and no one is required to do anything they do not want to do. All activities are fully clothed and touch is entirely optional but will be involved in the class sessions to whatever level you are comfortable. Some people find a hug to say hello too much and for others it is their natural greeting. Exploring and honouring our personal boundaries is core tantra work as we seek to completely honour ourselves and each other in this space.
